Layne Scroggs, Rudder High School junior, and Grayson McGee, Bryan High School senior earned “all-state” honors in choir and will perform Feb. 11 with the Texas All-State Choir at the 2017 Texas Music Educators Association Clinic/Convention in San Antonio.
By earning a spot with the music group, Scroggs and McGee earned their spot with the top 2.6 percent of musicians who auditioned for the honor. Over 68,000 students tried out for the music ensemble, and only 1,780 students were selected. Scroggs will be singing bass at the convention and McGee will sing as a tenor.
Additionally, Andres Reyna, Bryan High School junior, was selected as a first alternate for the music group. Students had to advance through regional and area competitions to be considered for all-state honors.
Alex Medlock, Bryan ISD choir director, was excited about the accomplishments of the Rudder and Bryan High choir students.
“These three young men made Bryan ISD proud,” Medlock said.
At the convention, all-state students will participate in three days of rehearsals before performing for thousands of attendees to bring the event to a close.
The Texas Music Educators Association is an association of 12,000 school music educators. For more information about the convention, visit www.tmea.org/conventions/2017.
