Rudder FFA Reaches National Heights

All three of Rudder High FFA’s agri-science fair participants earned an interview spot at the national convention after competing for the honor at the Texas FFA convention in July. Emily Adams, Rudder freshman, Katherine Fazzino, Texas A&M freshman, and Olivia Fazzino, Rudder Junior, accomplished a feat only 12 per category & division in the nation earn.

The girls will receive a $1,000 scholarship from Texas FFA & have an opportunity to earn a national scholarship. Their teacher and FFA advisor Michelle Knox is very excited about her students’ accomplishments and the opportunity ahead.

“To complete an agri-science fair project is a huge commitment,” Knox said. “To be completely honest the research these students are completing is incredible and ground breaking to the industry. I would invite anyone to talk to these three students and I promise will be just as impressed as I am.”

Knox believes the reason Rudder FFA has a record number of agri-science fair projects advancing to nationals is that “success breeds success.” She said recent success in the field inspired others to get involved in research and agri-science.

Community Service

Rudder FFA earned a national rating as a two-star chapter based on its community service events. This year, only 18 chapters advanced to nationals and were rated one, two or three stars.

Additional Honors

Additionally, seven Rudder FFA members received an American FFA Degree at the state convention. Brandi Bratton, Rosemary Fazzino, Landon Little, Myles Martinez, Annie Perez, Brady Phelps and Madison Smith earned the highest degree an FFA member can obtain. Eligible members must receive the State FFA Degree, been an active member for the past three years, graduate from high school at least 12 months before the national convention at which the degree is to be granted and maintain several other requirements related to community service and productivity.
