“Mission to Mars” is the theme for the Odyssey Academy, a STEM magnet school housed on the SFA campus. Core content teachers guide 6-8 graders through an integrated curriculum on a journey to colonize Mars. For example, the science teacher may be covering whether crops can survive on Mars, while the language arts teacher may be posing a research paper on the social impact of limited food supply in society. Odyssey courses are Pre-AP courses and are evaluated on a 5.0 grade point scale.
Transportation is provided. Students catch the bus in their neighborhood and ride to their zoned campus, where they catch a transfer bus to SFA. In the afternoon, they take the transfer bus back to their zoned campus, change buses and ride back to their neighborhood.
Odyssey Academy is open to all students via an application process. Student applications are evaluated through a matrix and qualifying students are notified of acceptance each spring.
