INQUIRE = Initiating New Quests for Understanding through
Innovative and Rigorous Exploration
INQUIRE Academy is open to all middle school students identified as gifted and talented or high achieving. It follows a school-within-a-school model and is housed at Jane Long Middle School.
Students have seven periods per day with five required classes: language arts, math, science, social studies, and foreign language. Electives are chosen from classes within the areas of visual and performing arts, technology, and physical education. Students have opportunities to take high school courses for credit at the middle school level.
Students work with teachers who, for the most part, are gifted themselves, so they understand how gifted students think, feel, and what they need to be challenged. Students have opportunities to work exclusively with other gifted students in Pre-AP courses which are evaluated on a 5.0 grade point scale.
Transportation is provided. Students catch the bus in their neighborhood and ride to their zoned campus, where they catch a transfer bus to Long. In the afternoon, they take the transfer bus back to their zoned campus, change buses and ride back to their neighborhood.
Applications for INQUIRE are available to students who are identified as gifted or high achieving and can be obtained from the Campus Gifted Contact or from Mary Wood, the INQUIRE Academy Counselor. Student applications are evaluated through a matrix and qualifying students are notified of acceptance each spring.
