During the 2011-12 school year, Texas replaced the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) test with the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR) program. The STAAR program for grades 3 through 8 assess reading and math, as well as writing in grades 4 and 7, science in grades 5 and 8, and social studies in grade 8. High school courses assessed are English I, English II, Algebra I, Biology and U.S. History.
