Highly Qualified Teacher Report

2003-2004 Highly Qualified Compliance Report

Bryan ISD 2009-2010 Public Notification of Teacher Quality

The Federal No Child Left Behind accountability system requires districts to monitor and report the qualification status of teachers as defined by No Child Left Behind legislation. The Bryan Independent School District is committed to having 100% of classrooms filled with “highly qualified teachers."

To be considered Highly Qualified under NCLB, secondary teachers must demonstrate mastery of each course they teach through either possessing a degree in the subject, or passing a specific state examination of content knowledge. In BISD, 99.56 percent of secondary teachers meet this standard.

At the elementary level, teachers are considered Highly Qualified through demonstrated mastery of elementary school pedagogy and knowledge of reading, writing and mathematics instruction. In BISD, 100 percent of teaches meet this standard.

This information reflects classes taught on all BISD campuses, including the high-poverty and high-minority campuses. BISD will continue to recruit the best qualified applicants for all vacant positions.

The Bryan Independent School District provides high-quality professional development training for 100% of our teachers and other instructional staff. All Bryan ISD academic core teachers participate in high-quality professional development training. It is the district’s goal to recruit fully certified and highly qualified teachers for our students.
