| History: | The Lamar School - A School of Choice is a secondary high school program that serves Bryan ISD students who are at-risk of not completing their education. It is designed for students who are willing to concentrate on scholastic work in order to gain a diploma coupled with a strong focus on the students' vocational/career objectives. To be admitted to Lamar, students must make an application to their academic advisor and assistant principal. The referral process includes testing, an interview with the Lamar Principal or designee, a student/parent meeting with an administrator and the certification that the pupil meets at least one of the state’s at-risk criteria. Course completions, discipline and attendance may also determine acceptance at Lamar. 9th-12th grade students are scheduled into four-hour instructional blocks of time (early morning, afternoon, or evening) based on students' academic needs and seat availability. All instruction is provided through computer based curriculum. Students provide their own transportation to The Lamar School. |
