June 22 Letter to Bryan ISD Staff About Salary Increases & Staffing Updates

June 22, 2022

Dear Bryan ISD Employees,

I am writing with an important compensation update following this week’s Board meeting, as I know it will be of interest to many employees. I am pleased to share that our Board of Trustees approved salary increases that will impact staff members at all levels of our organization, ensuring that we are able to maintain a high-quality workforce by offering competitive benefits. Throughout the last few months, our finance team has continued to carefully weigh all budget considerations and has worked collaboratively with our human resources team to ensure that we are doing all we can to invest in our workforce and the staff members who are at the heart of everything we do.

Compensation Plan

The compensation plan approved by our Board of Trustees Monday provides all eligible teachers, counselors, librarians, and registered nurses with a step increase on the salary schedule, plus an additional increase that amounts to at least $1,500. The starting teacher pay in Bryan ISD will also increase to $50,000, which is a $2,000 increase from our previous starting salary.

Additionally, the compensation plan approved by the Board includes pay increases for eligible auxiliary and paraprofessional staff that will amount to three percent of the midpoint and a $2.00 per hour increase for eligible food service staff. Eligible administrators and professional staff members will receive a pay increase of two percent of the midpoint.

The increases adopted this week are in addition to the previously approved 4 percent in retention stipends for returning staff members.

Staffing Updates

This week, Bryan ISD expanded our Local Innovation Plan to allow degreed professionals to teach in all courses with the exception of special education, bilingual, and PreK. You can learn more about our Local Innovation Plan at

In Bryan ISD, everything we do is student-focused and supports their academic and post-secondary success. We are proud to have a team of dedicated professionals who join in this important work, and our efforts to recruit additional staff members are ongoing. I encourage you to share information about our current job opportunities with friends and family members who may be interested in joining our team. As you may be aware, Bryan ISD is a District of Innovation (DOI), and our Local Innovation Plan has provided us with the ability to recruit non-traditional teaching candidates in our hard-to-fill areas, such as career and technical education (CTE) and world languages. Expansion followed the successful implementation in these areas and response to the growing demand for teachers to support our student learning. It is my hope that all of our Bryan ISD families are enjoying a safe and relaxing summer. We look forward to welcoming you back at convocation on August 10… but until then, enjoy the break!
