Bryan ISD preparing for new school year with security review, staff raises, District of Innovation Plan and more

Bryan ISD continues to prepare for the new school year and is pleased to have so much support from our school board and community.

We wanted to let you know that safety and security remains our top priority. We continue to evaluate our security plans and have a committee working on school safety. That committee consists of law enforcement, firefighters, parents, school board members, American Red Cross, Brazos County officials and community members. We are also conducting safety audits including on access to our buildings.

There have been some great things happening this summer. The BISD School Board approved raises for teachers and staff. Starting pay for teachers in our district is now $50,000.
We are also addressing the nationwide teacher shortage through our District of Innovation Plan. We are looking at alternative paths for teaching including hiring people with Bachelor’s Degrees. They will be given extensive training and mentorships to be prepared for new careers inside our classrooms.

Our school board continues to support us in these efforts. Earlier this month, longtime board member David Stasny wrote an opinion piece for The Eagle titled “Public schools best bet for the future.”
“I remain firmly convinced that public schools are a treasure rooted in the belief that every child, without exception deserves a chance at a great education,” Stasny wrote.
We have his Letter to the Editor attached if you’d like to read it.

We look forward to another great school year ahead!

Sincerely,
Clay Falls
