Options for Advanced Academics Expand in Fall 2017

Students will have more to look forward to than fresh, new (or expanded) campuses and a new grade configuration in the Fall of 2017. Just announced at the recent Bryan ISD Board of Trustees meeting was an extended set of offerings that place components from the successful INQUIRE and Odyssey Academies into the new 5/6 grade intermediate campuses.

Under the new grade configuration, approved by trustees and endorsed by voters in the 2014 bond election, the district’s 7/8 grade campuses will be Arthur Davila and Stephen F. Austin (SFA). Jane Long and Sam Rayburn will become 5/6 intermediate campuses. Currently, the Odyssey Academy is hosted at SFA and the INQUIRE Academy resides at Jane Long.

Announced this week, INQUIRE will expand to grades 5/6 at Jane Long and grades 7/8 at Davila. Odyssey will expand to grades 5/6 at Sam Rayburn and will continue to remain in grades 7/8 at SFA. The strategy creates a feeder pattern of advanced academics from the 5th grade through 8th grade and expands academies to campuses that previously did not feature them.

These enhancements continue the district’s commitment to expand choice and academic offerings. Decisions concerning athletics, fine arts and other programs at the 5th and 6th grade campuses are currently in discussions with stakeholders and staff.

The grade realignment takes effect in Fall 2017. Elementary campuses will house grades PK/K-4, intermediate campuses will serve grades 5/6, middle schools will serve 7th and 8th grade students, and the district’s high schools will continue to house grades 9-12.
