Explanation of Time Equivalency (TE) Days

Why does the district implement Time Equivalency (TE) Days?

Time Equivalency Days give teachers, principals, and campus staff  the opportunity to select training that is relevant, targeted, and aligned to their professional goals and teaching assignments.

Who qualifies to earn TE days?

Professionals and paraprofessionals who are NOT on a 226-day contract qualify to earn TE days.

How many TE days can be earned in one school year?

An employee can earn a MAXIMUM of THREE (3) TE Days within one school year.

These are directly tied to predetermined BISD student holidays as designated by the district's academic calendar.

For 2017-18, the 3 TE Days are:

  • November 20, 2017,

  • November 21, 2017, and

  • January 4, 2018.

When can an employee earn TE days?

TE days can only be earned outside of the employee's duty calendar.  Staff can earn TE days beginning May 30, 2017. The last day to earn TE credit is the day before the employee returns back on contract for the 2017-8 school year.

How can an employee earn TE days?

On April 24, 2017 each campus/department will receive an email from the Director of Professional Development with a link to a Google Form called “TE Day Requests 2017-18 for NON-226 employees”. Once the employee decides which PD he wants to attend this summer, he will need to submit those session titles on this Google Form which will go to his principal/supervisor for approval.
All submissions for TE Days MUST be entered on the Google form by Friday, May 19, 2017 at 4pm.

Once the form is received, the principal/supervisor will communicate back to the employee if his PD proposal has been approved. The only things left for the employee to do are:

  1. Attend the session(s)

  2. Sign in at the session(s), &

  3. Submit a copy of the Eduphoria credit for the session(s) to his principal/supervisor
upon returning to work in August 2017.

TE Day Guidelines for Time Clock Employees:

Time Clock employees must clock in/out when they attend PD this summer. This will allow the employee to accrue comp time for attending workshops outside of their contract time. This comp time must be SAVED UP so that it can be applied to the TE Day holidays in November and January. If an employee uses this comp time prior to the TE Day holiday, he will not be eligible to take this day off.

A normal work day for a Time Clock employee is 8 hours, so in order to be eligible for all 3 TE Days, the employee must accrue 24 clock hours of comp time prior to the TE Day being used.
