About Transfers
Bryan ISD offers a broad variety of academic, athletic and career & technical education options to personalize and enhance your child’s education. We strive to provide a high-quality educational environment that tailors to your student’s interests and meets high standards of statewide, college and career-prep expectations.
If your student is currently attending school on a transfer you will be notified if the continuation for 2023-2024 is approved and you DO NOT need to reapply.
The exception to this are students transitioning to intermediate (entering 5th), middle (entering 7th) or high school (entering 9th). Parents of students in a transition year (fifth, seventh or ninth grade) will have to complete a new transfer application to request a school other than the one they are zoned to attend.

Enrollment at sending and receiving schools;
Dependability of parent transportation;
Number of requests in a school year;
Academic history;
Attendance history, including late arrivals and pickups;
Discipline history;
Previous attendance as a transfer student;
Participation in extracurricular activities;
Accuracy of the information submitted;
Compliance with timelines established in campus handbooks; and
Other criteria as noted on the transfer application.
General Information
All students, including prekindergarten and kindergarten students, must first enroll at their home campus.
Per School Board Policy, Bryan ISD does not accept transfer requests for students who do not reside within the BISD boundary unless you are a full-time employee of the district.
All students who transfer are subject to review by the UIL; a transfer may affect a student’s eligibility in sports. It is the responsibility of the student seeking a transfer to ensure that any and all possible UIL ramifications are considered. If you have questions in this area, please contact the BISD Athletics Department at (979) 209-7990.
Should the enrollment at any school increase unexpectedly during the school year, the district reserves the right to revoke transfers to the school immediately in order to reestablish enrollment balance.
It is a criminal offense under Penal Code 37.10 to present false information or records for identification. Presenting false information on a transfer request or failing to update the information presented in a timely manner shall be considered sufficient grounds for revocation of any transfer.
Transportation
If a student transfers to participate in a middle school magnet program, the District will provide transportation. If the transfer occurs for other reasons, the student’s parent or guardian will be responsible for providing transportation to and from school.
New School Boundaries (Elementary & Intermediate Only)
As previously communicated, the district has been working with all stakeholders to balance enrollment at the elementary level and also create an attendance boundary for the new Sadberry Intermediate School which will open with 5th graders in August of 2023.
The Board of Trustees will consider new boundary recommendations on January 17, 2023. bryanisd.org/schoolboundaries
Once approved, board policy states that all students prekindergarten - 5th grade shall be reassigned to the new attendance boundary to attend the grade level he or she is entering. However, students entering 4th grade for the 2023-2024 school year may apply for a transfer to remain at their current campus, but shall not be eligible for district-provided transportation, and siblings at other grades within the school shall be reassigned to the new attendance boundary school.
Appeal Process
Upon receipt of a denial notification an appeal may be submitted within 10 business days. The appeal form is included in the notification of the denial. All appeals will be reviewed by a second determination committee comprised of staff members. These staff members shall consider a number of criteria, including but not limited to: campus enrollment, attendance, number of prior transfers or campus moves, student needs, and any new information provided by the requestor.
